Violent Assault on ICE Service

A 20-year-old Syrian national attacked passengers aboard a high-speed ICE train in Bavaria, Germany, on Thursday while under the influence of multiple drugs. The assailant used a hammer during the assault between Straubing and Plattling stations, injuring four people. Two victims required hospitalization.

Victim Profile

Victims included three Syrians (aged 15, 24, and 51) and a 38-year-old German man. The German passenger first noticed suspicious behavior and was attacked while attempting an emergency call. Authorities confirm all victims had interacted with the attacker before the assault, though their relationship remains unclear.

Criminal Background Emerges

German prosecutors revealed toxicology reports detected three substances in the suspect's system. The attacker, residing in Austria, had prior convictions including aggravated assault earlier this year. Austrian authorities had initiated proceedings to revoke his asylum status following these convictions.

Self-Defense Incident

Passengers including a uniformed soldier subdued the assailant during the attack. The suspect sustained serious injuries during the confrontation and remains hospitalized under police guard. Investigators found no evidence linking the attack to extremism, instead focusing on drug-induced psychosis as a potential trigger.

German Federal Police continue investigating the incident on the Deutsche Bahn service bound for Vienna. ICE trains, Germany's premier high-speed rail system, typically operate at speeds up to 300km/h on major intercity routes.
