Android app privacy
Informed Clearly Android app data
The Informed Clearly Android app, package name com.informedclearly, is provided by
Informed Clearly. This section explains the data handling for the app and supplements the general
website privacy policy above.
Product analytics
The app creates a random identifier for each installation. It is not an Android ID, advertising ID, IMEI, account ID, name, or email address. The analytics gateway does not store that raw identifier: it stores only a salted SHA-256 hash so that anonymous usage can be counted without directly identifying a person.
The app sends only allow-listed product events: app_open, article_saved,
article_unsaved, topic_followed, topic_unfollowed,
feedback_opened, feedback_sent, review_prompt_requested,
review_flow_completed, and review_flow_failed, together with limited
article and poll interaction events. Product analytics does not include search text, free-form
content, precise location, or hardware identifiers.
Product analytics records are automatically deleted after no more than 180 days. Internal analytics views show aggregate counts and rates and do not display the installation hash.
Reviews, feedback, ads, and notifications
Review telemetry records only whether the app requested, completed, or failed the Google Play in-app review flow. It cannot tell us whether Google displayed the review dialog, whether you submitted a rating or review, or what rating or text you entered.
Feedback text and contact details are sent only when you explicitly submit the contact form. They are handled separately from product analytics and are used to respond to your message. The current no-ads release has advertising and Firebase push delivery disabled.
How to request deletion
The app does not require an account. You can remove data stored locally on your device by opening Android Settings, selecting Apps, then Informed Clearly, then Storage, and choosing Clear storage; uninstalling the app also removes its local data.
To request deletion of server-side information, email privacy@informedclearly.com with the subject “Informed Clearly Android data deletion request”. Include the email address or contact details you previously used, the approximate date, the app version if known, and whether your request concerns feedback, contact, or newsletter data. Never send us a password or device identifier.
We will delete information that can be verified and matched to your request, including contact, feedback, or newsletter information and associated service records that we are not legally required to retain. We normally respond within 30 days and always within the period required by applicable law. If a security or legal record must be retained, our response will explain the reason and applicable retention period.
The salted product-analytics hash cannot be reversed by us to discover your name or email address, so it cannot be matched to a personal deletion request. It is automatically deleted with the associated analytics record no later than 180 days after collection. Clearing storage or reinstalling the app generates a new random installation identifier.
