Hammer Attack on International Train in Bavaria Leaves Multiple Injured

Violent Assault on ICE Train

A 20-year-old Syrian national attacked passengers aboard an international high-speed train in Bavaria, Germany, this afternoon using a hammer. The assault occurred between the towns of Straubing and Plattling on an ICE train traveling from Hamburg to Vienna.

Casualties and Response

Four passengers sustained minor injuries in the attack. Three victims were identified as Syrian nationals aged 15, 24, and 51 years old. The fourth victim is a 38-year-old passenger whose nationality remains unknown. Emergency services including police, firefighters, and paramedics responded with over 150 personnel. The Red Cross also provided assistance to the approximately 500 passengers aboard the train.

Apprehension of Suspect

Fellow passengers managed to overpower the assailant before police took him into custody. The attacker was also injured during the confrontation and has been hospitalized. Authorities initially reported the weapon as an axe but later confirmed it was a hammer. Investigators suspect the perpetrator may have been carrying additional weapons, though details remain undisclosed.

Bavarian police have launched an investigation into the motive behind the attack. The incident occurred on Germany's high-speed Intercity Express (ICE) network, operated by Deutsche Bahn.
