A violent clash involving machetes at a Melbourne shopping center has led the Australian state of Victoria to fast-track a ban on the sale of these weapons. The ban, originally set for September, will now take effect this Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Northland shopping center in Preston, where two gangs engaged in a fight, leaving a 20-year-old man in serious condition. Victoria's premier stated the ban aims to 'choke the supply' of such weapons, emphasizing that communities and police should not have to deal with them in public spaces.

Four individuals, including two teenagers, have been charged in connection with the attack. Police confirmed that three of the four machetes used have been seized.
