Over 100 Killed in Nigeria Attacks, Dozens Missing

At least 100 people have been killed in an attack by armed men in Nigeria, according to Amnesty International Nigeria. The organization has called on authorities to halt the "almost daily bloodshed" in Benue State. The attacks highlight the failure of government security measures in the region.

The assault occurred on Saturday night in Yelewata, located in central Nigeria. AFP reports, citing local sources, that approximately 100 deaths have been recorded. Local authorities have confirmed the attacks but have not disclosed the number of casualties.

Amnesty International's local branch reports that many people remain missing, and dozens of injured individuals are without medical assistance. "Many families were locked inside their homes and burned alive," the organization stated on social media. "Numerous bodies were charred beyond recognition."

Armed gangs frequently target villages in the region, resulting in high casualties. The area is plagued by conflicts between herders seeking grazing land for their livestock and farmers needing agricultural land for crops.

Last month, 42 people were shot dead in the same region.
