Gaza journalists fear being targeted by Israeli military: 'Words are our only weapon'

Local Palestinian journalists are the eyes and ears of the world in Gaza, as foreign journalists are still not allowed entry. Daily, they venture out wearing bulletproof vests and helmets marked 'press,' despite knowing this offers no guarantee of safety. Since the war began, over 200 journalists have been killed in Gaza.

Recently, the Israeli military published a 'hit list' of Gazan journalists allegedly collaborating with Hamas, based on unverifiable documents. Hossam Shabat, one of the journalists on the list, denied the accusations but was later killed by Israel.

Hind Khoudary, a journalist working for Al Jazeera, shared threats against her on social media, urging followers to save the evidence. She acknowledges the danger but refuses to stop reporting: 'If all journalists in Gaza stop, who will tell the world what is happening here? Our voice is our only weapon.'
