The pro-European candidate Nicusor Dan has won the Romanian presidential elections. With nearly all votes counted, Dan secured over 54 percent, while the radical nationalist George Simion received 46 percent.

Initial exit polls, which are not considered reliable, also indicated Dan as the winner at 8 PM. Both candidates initially claimed victory based on these polls.

Dan responded by stating that Romanian society has shown 'impressive strength,' referring to the high voter turnout of 64.5 percent, up from 53 percent in the first round of the elections.

Simion later conceded defeat but had earlier questioned the exit poll results, claiming his own tally showed him with 400,000 more votes than Dan.
