US Considers TV Show Where Immigrants Compete for Citizenship

The US government has been asked to collaborate on a television program where immigrants can win American citizenship. Contestants must prove their knowledge about the US and American traditions. Each episode will eliminate one participant until a final winner is naturalized.

The idea comes from Canadian-American TV producer Rob Worsoff, inspired by his own naturalization process. Contestants will compete in various challenges across different states, such as building and launching a rocket. "We need a national conversation about what it means to be American," Worsoff told The Wall Street Journal.

The producer emphasized the show is not punitive: "This isn't 'if you lose, you get deported.' It's not 'Hunger Games' for immigrants." Potential hosts include Sofia Vergara, Ryan Reynolds, and Mila Kunis.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the idea is under review. Worsoff has previously pitched the concept during the Obama and Biden administrations without success.
