British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken the dramatic step of firing his ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, following explosive revelations about the diplomat's communications with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The decision, made jointly with Foreign Secretary Cooper, comes after British media uncovered emails showing Mandelson's continued support for Epstein even after his conviction.

Damning Email Evidence Emerges

The scandal erupted when tabloid The Sun published emails from 2008 in which Mandelson urged Epstein to "fight for early release" from prison. Epstein was serving an 18-month sentence for soliciting paid sex with a minor at the time. "The screening of Mandelson was conducted in the usual thorough manner," a Foreign Office representative told the BBC, though the government acknowledged the emails showed "a considerably more intimate relationship than was known at the time of his appointment."

Mandelson's ties to Epstein were already public knowledge, with the Labour politician appearing in Epstein's infamous "friends book" released this week, where he referred to the disgraced financier as his "best friend." The timing couldn't be worse for the British government, coming just days before a planned state visit by former President Donald Trump, who also appears in Epstein's records.
