Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of a 3000-year-old Mayan city in northern Guatemala. The site, named Los Abuelos (Spanish for "the grandparents"), includes pyramids and monuments indicating it was a significant ceremonial center.

The ruins were found in the rainforest, approximately 21 kilometers from the well-known ruins of Uaxactun. The discovered city spans about 16 square kilometers.

Researchers suggest this could be one of the oldest and most important ceremonial centers of the early Mayan civilization in the region. The city is believed to have been used by the Maya for around 1000 years before being abandoned and later inhabited by other groups.
