Trump Unveils Golden Dome Plans: New Missile Defense System to Cost $175 Billion

US President Trump has revealed further details about the new Golden Dome missile defense system. The advanced shield is expected to be fully operational by the end of his second term and will cost $175 billion (€155 billion).

During his first term, Trump expressed his desire to develop an advanced air defense system. Earlier this year, he signed an executive order to begin construction of the new missile shield.

According to Trump, the system will use cutting-edge technologies on land, sea, and in space to protect the US from ballistic and hypersonic cruise missiles.

"Once fully built, Golden Dome will intercept missiles launched from anywhere in the world or even from space," he stated. "This is crucial for the success and survival of our nation."

Trump announced that a design has been selected and all components will be manufactured in the US. Canada has shown interest in joining the project, but Prime Minister Carney has yet to respond.

The Pentagon has long warned about the advanced missile capabilities of China and Russia, necessitating countermeasures. Golden Dome is inspired by Israel's Iron Dome, developed with US support, which intercepts most rockets fired at Israel.

The new system includes a satellite network to detect, track, and intercept incoming missiles. General Michael Guetlein of the Space Force will oversee the project.
