US-Israel Solidarity on Gaza Strategy

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a united front during their joint press conference in Jerusalem, emphasizing Washington's continued support for Israel's military operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The high-level meeting comes amid escalating tensions in the region following Israel's controversial strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar.

Destroy Hamas or No Peace

Both leaders agreed that the destruction of Hamas and the release of all remaining hostages represent the only path to ending the conflict. Israel estimates that of the 48 hostages still held by Hamas, approximately 20 remain alive. 'As long as Hamas exists, there can be no peace in the region because the terrorist group represents barbarism,' stated Secretary Rubio, characterizing Hamas as a fundamental threat to regional peace and security.

International Criticism and Qatar Tensions

The officials addressed growing international outrage over Israel's recent attack on Hamas leadership in Doha, which resulted in the deaths of at least five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer. President Trump had previously expressed displeasure that the US wasn't notified in advance of the operation, though diplomatic relations appear to have normalized since.

Netanyahu dismissed criticism of the Qatar strike as 'enormous hypocrisy,' referencing a post-9/11 UN resolution that prohibits countries from harboring terrorists. The Israeli leader didn't rule out additional strikes against Hamas figures 'wherever they may be located.'

Regional Diplomacy Continues

Secretary Rubio is scheduled to travel to Doha for a brief visit aimed at reducing tensions between the US allies. Qatar has served as a key mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding a potential ceasefire in Gaza. The Qatari foreign minister has indicated willingness to continue discussions with Egypt and the US about establishing a truce.

According to Rubio, the Trump administration remains determined to end the conflict while maintaining that Hamas must be eliminated before lasting peace can be achieved. The Secretary minimized US concerns about developments in Gaza City, reiterating the administration's firm stance on the necessity of Hamas's destruction.
