Europe experienced its hottest year on record in 2024, with extreme weather events like floods in the west and prolonged droughts in the east. The annual European State of the Climate report highlights the urgency of adapting to climate change.

According to Copernicus and the WMO, Europe is warming twice as fast as the global average. The impacts were severe: floods disrupted 413,000 lives, while heatwaves and wildfires ravaged the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea also warmed significantly, and glaciers continued to melt.

Experts warn that immediate action is needed to mitigate further damage.
