Major Power Outage Cripples Berlin After Coordinated Attack

Berlin is facing a massive power crisis after anarchist saboteurs targeted two high-voltage transmission towers in a coordinated arson attack overnight. The attack has left tens of thousands of households and businesses without electricity, with authorities warning that full restoration may take until tomorrow.

The fires were discovered around 3:30 AM local time and were extinguished within an hour, but the damage to critical infrastructure was already done. Emergency services are struggling to maintain operations as traffic lights remain non-functional across affected areas and emergency hotlines experience severe disruptions.

Military-Industrial Complex Targeted

In an online manifesto published shortly after the attack, an anarchist group claimed responsibility, stating the operation was specifically aimed at disrupting what they called "the military-industrial complex" operating in Berlin's Adlershof technology park. The statement read: 'We strike against the war machine that profits from destruction and oppression across the globe.'

The Adlershof technology park, home to numerous defense contractors and research facilities, was indeed among the areas worst affected by the power outage. Security analysts note this attack follows a pattern of increasing radical activism against defense industries in Germany.

Historical Context of Energy Infrastructure Attacks

This incident echoes a similar attack in March 2024 when left-wing extremists sabotaged power infrastructure serving Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory, causing significant production disruptions. The recurring pattern suggests growing sophistication among anti-capitalist and anti-military activist groups in targeting critical infrastructure.

Berlin's energy provider stated: 'We're working around the clock to restore power, but the damage to our transmission infrastructure is substantial. We prioritize hospitals and emergency services in our restoration efforts.'

The attack has raised serious concerns about the vulnerability of Europe's energy infrastructure to politically motivated sabotage, particularly as Germany continues to play a significant role in defense manufacturing amid ongoing global conflicts.
