Three dead and two missing in southern France due to severe weather

In southern France, at least three people have died due to severe weather, according to French media. After a heavy storm and intense rainfall this morning, the bodies of two people were found in Lavandou, between Toulon and St. Tropez. Another body was discovered in Vidauban, located slightly further north.

Two people are still missing. The severe weather quickly flooded streets in the affected municipalities. Hundreds of households are without electricity and water. Roads have also been closed.

According to the public prosecutor in Toulon, the two victims in Lavandou were caught off guard by the rapidly rising water. They were an elderly couple.

In Vidauban, the mayor confirmed the death of a third victim. A car with two people inside drove into a flooded rural road and ended up in a ditch. Only one of them could be rescued in time. According to Meteo-France, at least 187 millimeters of rain fell in the area in a short time.

The mayor of Vidauban urged parents not to pick up their children from school for the time being. The school will provide meals.

Over 300 firefighters have been deployed, local authorities reported.
