German Police Foil Hamas Terror Plot in Berlin

German authorities have arrested three suspected Hamas members in Berlin who were allegedly planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany. The suspects, identified as Abed Al G., Wael F. M., and Ahmad I., were apprehended during a weapon handover operation on October 1, 2025, according to federal prosecutors.

Weapons Cache Discovered

During coordinated raids, police discovered a significant weapons arsenal including an AK-47 assault rifle, several Glock pistols, and substantial ammunition. 'The suspects had been systematically procuring firearms since at least summer 2025,' stated a spokesperson for the German Federal Prosecutor's Office. 'This was a sophisticated operation aimed at carrying out deadly attacks on Jewish targets.'

Suspect Profiles and Background

The three men include a 36-year-old German citizen of Lebanese descent, a 44-year-old Syrian-born German national, and a 43-year-old Lebanese-born individual whose nationality remains undisclosed. All face charges of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and preparing serious acts of violence endangering the state.

According to CNN reporting, the suspects were described as 'foreign operatives' of Hamas who had been tasked with establishing weapons caches in Germany. The arrests occurred as the men were allegedly transferring weapons in Berlin, with additional searches conducted in Leipzig and Oberhausen.

Ongoing Counterterrorism Efforts

This case follows previous Hamas-related arrests in Germany, including four individuals detained in December 2023 who were accused of plotting attacks on Jewish institutions across Europe. 'Germany remains vigilant against terrorist threats, particularly those targeting our Jewish community,' emphasized Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in a statement.

The News18 report noted that Germany has classified Hamas as a terrorist organization since 2021 and has banned all activities connected to the group. The country has seen a significant increase in anti-Semitic incidents since the escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict in 2023.

Legal Proceedings and Security Concerns

The suspects are scheduled to appear before a judge who will determine whether they remain in custody pending trial. Security has been heightened around Jewish institutions across Germany following the arrests.

'This operation demonstrates our commitment to preventing terrorist attacks before they can be carried out,' said a senior security official who spoke on condition of anonymity. 'We will continue to work with our international partners to disrupt terrorist networks operating in Europe.'

The arrests come amid ongoing peace negotiations regarding the Gaza conflict and highlight the persistent threat posed by Hamas operatives in Europe. German authorities have emphasized that the country's Jewish community remains protected, with increased security measures implemented at synagogues, community centers, and Israeli diplomatic missions.
