Deadly Terror Attack Strikes Jerusalem Bus During Morning Rush

At least five people were killed and six others critically wounded when gunmen opened fire on a crowded bus in northwest Jerusalem during Monday morning's rush hour. The attack occurred at the Ramot junction, a major transportation hub connecting Jerusalem with surrounding communities.

Chaotic Scene at Bus Stop

According to eyewitness accounts and security officials, two Palestinian assailants from the West Bank city of Ramallah boarded the bus and began shooting passengers indiscriminately. Israeli police confirmed both attackers were shot and killed by security forces shortly after they initiated their assault.

'There is complete devastation at the scene - people lying unconscious in the street, glass shards everywhere, and total chaos,' an emergency responder told Israeli media.

Victims and Response

The victims included a man and woman in their fifties and three men in their thirties. Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, reported at least six people in critical condition transported to area hospitals.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately convened security officials to address the attack, while police closed access routes between Jerusalem and the West Bank pending investigation. This represents the deadliest terrorist incident in Israel since October 2024, when six people were killed in a combined shooting and stabbing attack in Jaffa.

Regional Tensions

The attack occurs amid ongoing tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has seen periodic outbreaks of violence despite numerous peace initiatives. According to historical records, the conflict traces back to the late 19th century with competing national movements and territorial claims.

Security analysts note that bus attacks have been a recurring method in previous waves of violence, highlighting the vulnerability of public transportation systems in conflict zones.
