Breakthrough Partnership Delivers Next-Generation Autonomous Technology

Qualcomm Technologies and BMW Group have jointly unveiled Snapdragon Ride Pilot, a groundbreaking automated driving system that represents the culmination of a three-year collaborative effort. The system made its global debut in the all-new BMW iX3 at IAA Mobility 2025, marking a significant milestone in automotive innovation.

Global Validation and Scalable Platform

The AI-enabled Snapdragon Ride Pilot system has been validated for use in 60 countries worldwide, with plans to expand to over 100 countries by 2026. This scalable platform enables cost-efficient single camera active safety systems while scaling up to multi-camera, multi-radar Level 2+ highway and urban automated driving functions.

Advanced Software Stack Architecture

The system features a sophisticated software stack developed by over 1,400 specialists across Germany, the USA, Sweden, Romania, and the BMW AD Test Center in the Czech Republic. The architecture includes:

  • 360-Degree Perception: Camera-based vision stack for object detection, surround view, lane recognition, and traffic sign interpretation
  • Safety-First Approach: Compliance with Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL) and Functional Safety standards
  • Advanced Context-Aware Driving: Combination of rule-based and AI-based models for behavior prediction

BMW iX3: The First Implementation

The BMW iX3 features what BMW calls the "Superbrain of Automated Driving"—a central intelligent computer powered by Snapdragon Ride SoCs that offers 20 times higher computing power than previous generations. The system enables advanced capabilities including contextual lane changes, hands-free highway driving, and AI-powered parking assistance.
