The Israeli military conducted large-scale attacks on Gaza again last night, including a former school in Gaza City. While the military often claims to target Hamas, civilians are systematically killed in these operations.

"We don't have insight into the Israeli military's plans, but these attacks fit a pattern of violence against civilians we've observed for a long time," says Jessica Dorsey, a lecturer in International Law at Utrecht University and affiliated with Airwars, an organization documenting civilian casualties from airstrikes.

"For 19 months, we've seen the Israeli military bomb hospitals, schools, and mosques. Attacks on medics, aid workers, and journalists are also common. Targeting civilians is always prohibited, but these groups are especially protected under international law. The scale of these attacks suggests they are part of Israel's strategy."
