Russian forces have secured their first significant victories in a summer offensive that began several weeks ago in Donbas, according to the independent news platform Meduza. Ukrainian defenses near the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka highway have been breached, and several villages north of the road have been captured. Defense specialist Patrick Bolder from The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies HCSS notes uncertainty whether recent airstrikes are a prelude to a broader offensive. 'We are looking at a kind of endgame, which could still last a very long time,' he said.

Meduza reports that the area around Kramatorsk and Sloviansk is likely the target of the offensive—part of a broader Russian summer campaign. Ukrainian defenses in the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk sector are under clear pressure, though the Russian advance remains slow and the breakthrough has not been fully exploited. 'The Ukrainian military leadership still has time to send reinforcements to the area, but the only available reserves are in the Sumy region, where Russian troops are also advancing,' Meduza stated.
