Ukrainian military leadership under fire for 'stupid orders' causing unnecessary losses

The Ukrainian military leadership has come under scrutiny again following the resignation of an experienced frontline commander who criticized poor command decisions leading to excessive and unnecessary losses at the front, reports The Kyiv Independent. Battalion commander Oleksandr Shyrshyn, who resigned as commander of the 47th Mechanized Brigade, stated, 'I have never received such stupid orders as those in our current sector.'

Shyrshyn resigned on May 16 after his brigade was relocated to the Russian region of Kursk and is now holding the line along the border with Ukraine's Sumy region. He accused the military leadership of incompetence, rigid command structures, and a Soviet-style culture that prioritizes personal reputations over soldiers' lives.

Other commanders have echoed similar complaints, describing impossible or 'suicidal' orders that disregard the actual combat strength of units. The Ukrainian General Staff has announced an internal investigation into the allegations.
