Taiwan has expressed optimism about trade discussions with the United States. The highest trade representatives from both countries met at an economic summit in South Korea. According to Taiwanese Vice Premier Cheng Li-Chiun, the talks proceeded well.

'Taiwan is confident it can achieve a trade balance by increasing purchases from the US,' Cheng stated at a press conference in Taiwan. She emphasized that most foreign investments by Taiwanese companies go to the US.
