The NATO foreign ministers are meeting for the last time in Antalya, Turkey, today. Discussions will focus on the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague and the 5% defense spending target demanded by the US. According to journalist Ria Cats, member states realize that President Trump is serious, leaving them little choice but to comply.

Cats notes that countries like Spain, Italy, and Belgium already struggle to meet the current 2% target, making 5% a significant challenge. No concrete agreements are expected today, but the meeting will prepare for the defense ministers' gathering in Brussels in June, ahead of the NATO summit where Trump will push for firm commitments.

Ukrainian President Zelensky is also visiting Turkish President Erdogan today, while Russian President Putin has declined to attend. The ministers will closely monitor these developments, especially as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to meet the Russian delegation in Istanbul afterward.
