The diplomatic landscape remains complex, with former US President Donald Trump claiming last month that Putin had agreed to meet Zelensky, a statement contradicted days later by Russia's Foreign Minister. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently stated he no longer expects a meeting between the two presidents, particularly after Russia's major air attack on Kyiv. Merz subsequently called Putin a war criminal, prompting Putin to dismiss these comments as "a failed attempt to shift responsibility for the Ukrainian tragedy."
