Hackers have targeted Coinbase, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency trading platforms. The attackers threaten to release stolen data unless they receive a $20 million ransom.

Coinbase has stated it will not comply with the demand. According to the company, the hackers aimed to compile a list of customers, whom they then contacted while posing as Coinbase employees.

The criminals attempted to trick customers into transferring their cryptocurrency—a classic scam adapted for the crypto world.

Coinbase confirmed that a small group of customers had their data stolen, including account numbers, national identification numbers, and passport details. However, login credentials and crypto access keys were not compromised.

The company is offering a $20 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the hackers.

This incident follows a trend of increasing cyberattacks on crypto platforms. In February, $1.5 billion in cryptocurrency was stolen from the popular exchange Bybit.

Coinbase revealed that foreign-based helpdesk employees were bribed to leak customer data. Those involved have been fired.
