Bizarre Promotion Strategy Halts Women's Basketball Games

A cryptocurrency group has claimed responsibility for four disruptive incidents where sex toys were thrown onto courts during WNBA games. The latest occurred during the Chicago Sky vs Atlanta Dream matchup on August 8, 2025, causing game suspension.

Crypto Group's Viral Marketing Tactic

An anonymous spokesperson revealed the acts were publicity stunts to promote their digital currency, stating: "We needed viral stunts to avoid paying influencers. The WNBA's controversies made it a logical target." According to Forbes, the coin's value surged 300% following the incidents.

Player Safety Concerns and Arrests

WNBA athletes have condemned the dangerous acts. Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham warned: "Stop throwing dildos - you could hurt someone," while New York Liberty's Isabelle Harrison criticized arena security. Multiple perpetrators have been arrested across the four incidents dating back to July 29.
