Dutch Model Calls Epstein Relationship 'Serious Error of Judgment'

Dutch model and television presenter Yfke Sturm has publicly addressed her past contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, calling it a "serious error of judgment" and expressing deep regret. The 44-year-old's name appears in hundreds of recently released Epstein court documents, which reveal intensive contact between the two starting in late 2011.

Explicit Messages and Professional Connections

The documents, released as part of the ongoing Epstein investigation, show that Sturm and Epstein began communicating in December 2011. Initially, their conversations were professional and friendly, with Epstein offering career advice and discussing job opportunities at his companies. However, the tone quickly turned sexually explicit, with Epstein instructing Sturm to take "very, very sexy" photos and send them to him.

'I was naïve and underestimated the true nature of Epstein and the damage he caused,' Sturm said in a written statement. 'During that time, I did not have a complete picture of who Epstein really was.'

Epstein's Criminal History

What makes the timing particularly troubling is that Epstein had already been convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor for prostitution. By 2011, when their contact began, he was a registered sex offender. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Epstein built a fortune through finance and developed connections with wealthy individuals, prominent politicians, and royalty before his death by suicide in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Document Details and Timeline

The released documents include emails, text messages, and Skype call records that show Epstein helped Sturm during her divorce by offering financial assistance and legal advice. The files also contain references to Epstein asking Sturm to help recruit young assistants under 25 years old.

Contact between the two decreased after 2012, and Sturm informed Epstein of her pregnancy in 2015. That same year, Sturm suffered serious injuries including a fractured skull and spinal fractures in a surfing accident in Italy that required a medically induced coma.

Sturm's Response and Women's Rights Advocacy

In her statement, Sturm emphasized her continued commitment to women's rights and support for victims of sexual abuse. 'Throughout my entire life and career, I have consistently worked for women's rights, women's safety, and the right of survivors to be heard with dignity and respect,' she said. 'Those values remain unchanged.'

According to her Wikipedia biography, Sturm was discovered at age 15 in 1997 and won the International Elite Model Look Contest that same year, leading to exclusive contracts with Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. She has modeled for Victoria's Secret and hosted Holland's Next Top Model from 2006-2007.

Broader Epstein Investigation Context

The Epstein documents have revealed connections to numerous high-profile figures including Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and European royals. Epstein's death in August 2019 while awaiting trial sparked national controversy, with official investigations concluding he died by hanging in his Manhattan jail cell, though conspiracy theories persist.

Sturm's case adds to the growing list of individuals who had contact with Epstein after his initial conviction, raising questions about how he continued to maintain relationships with prominent figures despite his criminal status.
