Major DEA Operation Targets Sinaloa Cartel Network

US authorities have conducted one of the largest anti-drug operations in recent years, arresting 617 suspected members of the Sinaloa Cartel across multiple countries. The operation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), resulted in the seizure of 420 firearms, over $11 million in cash, and massive quantities of narcotics including 480 kilograms of fentanyl powder and nearly 7,500 kilograms of cocaine.

The crackdown coincided with US Secretary of State Rubio's visit to Mexico, where he met with President Sheinbaum to discuss enhanced cooperation against criminal organizations. Every kilo of poison seized, every dollar taken from the cartels, and every arrest we make represents saved lives and defended communities, stated DEA Director Cole.

However, the operation has raised concerns in Mexico about sovereignty and the potential for military intervention. Six major Mexican cartels, including Sinaloa, were recently designated as 'foreign terrorist organizations' by the US government following President Trump's inauguration.

The DEA operation follows a controversial incident where US forces attacked and sank a Venezuelan vessel in international waters, killing eleven people suspected of drug trafficking. Vice President Vance defended the action on social media, stating: Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military.

According to CNN reports, the Trump administration is considering military strikes against cartel targets within Venezuelan territory, a scenario that alarms Mexican officials and regional partners.

While Mexico has cooperated with US demands in the fight against cartels, there is growing unease about the increasingly militarized approach. The Mexican government remains particularly vigilant about rhetoric from certain Republican circles advocating for 'military intervention' in Mexico.
