Milan police have apprehended four children aged 11-13 in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman. The victim was struck while crossing at a designated pedestrian crossing yesterday.

Details of the Incident

Authorities report the children fled the scene immediately after the collision. They were later located in a nearby unauthorized Roma settlement. All suspects are of Bosnian descent but were born in Italy. The 13-year-old male was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Legal Limitations and Reactions

Italian law prohibits criminal prosecution of individuals under 14 years old, meaning the children cannot face formal charges despite the fatality. This legal limitation has sparked significant controversy.

Transport Minister Matteo Salvini called for immediate demolition of the Roma camp and arrest of the parents: "If confirmed, this madness requires demolition of the camp after years of theft and violence. Parents should be arrested and parental rights terminated." Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala countered: "It's shameful to speculate about such a terrible death."

Vehicle Origin Investigation

The vehicle involved was reported stolen from a French tourist who had parked it 1.5 kilometers from the accident site. Police are investigating whether the children directly participated in the theft.
