Major Data Breach at French Telecom Provider

Bouygues Telecom detected a significant cyberattack on August 4, 2025, resulting in unauthorized access to personal information of certain subscribers. The telecommunications company has begun notifying affected customers via email and SMS alerts.

Compromised Information

The breach exposed customer contact details, contract information, personal identification data, and International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs). Crucially, payment card details and account passwords remained secure and were not accessed during the incident.

Security Response

Technical teams immediately implemented countermeasures to terminate the attack and strengthened security protocols. Bouygues Telecom has filed an official complaint with judicial authorities and notified France's data protection agency (CNIL). Per French law, perpetrators face penalties including five-year imprisonment and €150,000 fines.

Customer Protection Guidance

Affected subscribers received specific recommendations to mitigate fraud risks:

  • Verify unexpected communications claiming affiliation with Bouygues Telecom or financial institutions
  • Never disclose passwords or banking credentials via phone or email
  • Scrutinize bank statements for unauthorized transactions
  • Contact financial institutions directly using official channels when concerned

The company directs customers to France's cybersecurity assistance platform (www.cybermalveillance.gouv.fr) for additional resources.
