Two Israeli diplomats murdered in Washington, suspect shouted 'Free Palestine'

Two employees of the Israeli embassy were shot dead in the US capital, Washington. The suspected perpetrator, a 30-year-old man from Chicago, has been arrested. During his arrest, he shouted "Free Free Palestine," said Washington police chief Smith.

The attack took place near the Jewish Museum, where an event for young diplomats was being held. According to the Israeli ambassador to the US, the two victims were a young couple about to get engaged.

The suspect approached a group of four people, pulled out a firearm, and began shooting, Smith said. After the attack, the suspect entered the museum and was apprehended by security.

An eyewitness told CNN that the suspect initially posed as a witness to the attack. "There were shots, and then a man came running into the center. The guards offered him water to calm him down. He was behaving erratically. They thought he had seen the shooting," the witness said.

Later, the suspect asked security to call the police. When officers arrived, the man took responsibility for the attack, saying, "I did it, I did it for Gaza. Free Palestine!" the witness added.
