Second Black Box Recovered from Indian Aircraft Crash

Investigators have located the second black box from the aircraft that crashed last Thursday in a residential area of Ahmedabad, India. The device, a cockpit voice recorder, was confirmed by the Indian government. This discovery is crucial for understanding the cause of the tragic accident, which claimed the lives of 270 people, including 241 passengers aboard the Boeing 787-8.

Key Findings

The cockpit voice recorder captures audio from the cockpit, including pilot conversations, alarm signals, and ambient sounds. Earlier, the flight data recorder was found on a rooftop, which records parameters like altitude, speed, and pilot actions. Combined, these devices are expected to provide critical insights into the crash.

Victim Identification

Over 90 victims have been identified through DNA testing, according to a hospital official in Ahmedabad. Forty-seven bodies have already been returned to their families.

Ongoing Investigation

The cause of the crash remains unclear. Footage shows the aircraft failing to gain altitude shortly after takeoff, crashing without any visible external impact, fire, or explosion. The sole survivor, a 40-year-old British national, described the plane hovering briefly before a sudden impact.

International Collaboration

The Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the probe, with support from teams in the U.S. and U.K. Representatives from Boeing and the FAA have also visited the crash site. A preliminary report is expected within three months, including recommendations to prevent future incidents.

Additional Boeing Incident

In a separate incident, an Air India Boeing 787-8 returned to Hong Kong due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely and is under inspection.
