At Least 33 Ground Fatalities Reported After Air India Plane Crash

A tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, has resulted in at least 33 fatalities on the ground, according to reports from the Indian news channel NDTV. The total death toll has now risen to 274, including all 242 passengers and crew members aboard the ill-fated Air India flight.

The Boeing 787-8, which was 12 years old, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff, striking a medical staff building. The flight was en route to London when the disaster occurred. The cause of the crash remains unknown, but investigators are hopeful that the recovered black boxes will provide crucial insights. The Indian Minister of Civil Aviation has announced that the investigation will be completed within three months.

In response to the incident, all Boeing 787 aircraft in India are undergoing urgent inspections. Eight of the approximately 30 planes have already been examined. The minister described the crash as a national tragedy that has deeply shocked the country.

Only one passenger survived the crash and is currently hospitalized. The 40-year-old British national, who was visiting family in India, is expected to recover and be discharged soon. His brother, unfortunately, did not survive the accident.

Identifying the victims has proven challenging due to the severe condition of the remains. Hundreds of relatives have provided DNA samples to assist in the identification process.
