Multiple fatalities as train derails after Russian bridge collapse, possibly due to explosion

At least seven people have died and thirty were injured after a bridge in western Russia collapsed, causing a train to derail.

The exact cause remains unclear, but it appears part of the bridge fell onto the train. Russian railway authorities suggest "illegal interference" as the cause, while state media RT reports local officials suspect an explosion.

The incident occurred in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine. Reports indicate 379 passengers were aboard. Russian emergency services dispatched 180 responders.

If explosives were used, this wouldn't be the first attack on Russian railways since the Ukraine war began. In December 2023, Ukrainian media claimed secret agents sabotaged a Siberia-China trade route.

Ukrainian authorities haven't commented. Another incident was reported in Kursk region where a freight train bridge collapsed.
