The police in Brussels have seized an electric scooter capable of reaching 106 km/h during a routine check. The maximum legal speed for such vehicles in Belgium is 25 km/h, similar to the Netherlands. The operation took place in the city center, where authorities confiscated a total of twenty scooters exceeding the speed limit.

Some riders face heavy fines, though the exact amounts remain unspecified. Scooters that can be adjusted to comply with the 25 km/h limit may be returned to their owners after a technical inspection.

According to the Belgian road safety institute Vias, there were 1,825 accidents involving scooters last year, resulting in injuries or fatalities. Of these, 541 occurred in Brussels. Many residents are unaware that riders must be at least 16 years old and that carrying passengers is prohibited.
