US President Trump has postponed the import tariffs he plans to impose on European products until July 9. Trump had previously threatened the EU with a general 50% tariff starting June 1, but agreed to the delay after a phone call with EU Commission President Von der Leyen.

The two leaders spoke last night and both described the conversation as "productive." The EU and the US are negotiating import tariffs, but discussions have been challenging.

Von der Leyen stated on X that Brussels aims to continue talks "swiftly and decisively" to reach a good agreement by July 9. Trump confirmed that negotiation teams will meet soon to explore potential solutions.

Together, the EU and the US account for 30% of global trade, with €4.4 billion in goods and services crossing the ocean daily—a figure that has grown in recent years.
