Debian 13 'Trixie' Officially Released

The Debian Project has launched Debian 13 'Trixie' after 2 years, 1 month, and 30 days of development. This stable release includes 5 years of support through combined efforts of Debian Security and Long Term Support teams.

Key Features and Updates

Trixie ships with updated desktop environments including GNOME 48, KDE Plasma 6.3, LXDE 13, LXQt 2.1.0, and Xfce 4.20. The release adds 14,100 new packages (total 69,830 packages) while removing 8,840 obsolete ones. Significant software updates include Linux kernel 6.12 LTS, LibreOffice 25.2, Python 3.13, PHP 8.4, and OpenSSL 3.5.

Architecture Changes

Debian 13 introduces official riscv64 support while discontinuing i386 as a regular architecture. Supported platforms now include amd64, arm64, ppc64el, riscv64, and s390x. This marks the final release for ARM EABI (armel) architecture.

Installation Options

Users can test Trixie via live images (DVD/USB/netboot) for amd64/arm64 or install directly using various media. Cloud images are available for Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, OpenStack, and other platforms. The installer supports 78 languages with improved hardware support and secure boot capabilities.
