Scheffler Dominates at Royal Portrush

World number one Scottie Scheffler has taken control of the British Open after an impressive second-round performance. The American golfer shot a 7-under-par 64 at Royal Portrush Golf Club, finishing the day at 10-under overall.

Record-Breaking Performance

Scheffler's round featured eight birdies, nearly matching the course record. His missed birdie putt on the 18th hole prevented him from equaling Shane Lowry's record. "I did many things well," Scheffler commented. "The tournament is only halfway done."

Contenders Close Behind

England's Matt Fitzpatrick sits one stroke back at 9-under after carding a 66. Fitzpatrick praised Scheffler's performance as "Tiger-esque," referencing Tiger Woods' dominant years. The last English winner was Nick Faldo in 1992.

Local Favorite McIlroy Advances

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, playing on his home course, shot a 69 to make the cut at 3-under. After failing to advance in 2019, McIlroy expressed relief: "I'm happy to play two extra days in this atmosphere."

Notable Absences

Defending champion Xander Schauffele stands at 2-under, while 2019 winner Shane Lowry received penalty strokes and sits tied for 34th. Several top players including Brooks Koepka and Collin Morikawa missed the cut by narrow margins.
