A Hamas official stated that the US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip does not meet the group's demands, including ending the war and addressing hunger in the area. The plan is still under review.

The White House earlier announced that Israel has already agreed to the proposal by Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of President Donald Trump. Given the dire situation in Gaza and increasing pressure on Netanyahu, urgency is needed to finalize the deal. According to Israeli media, the plan includes a 60-day ceasefire, during which talks about ending the war would take place.

Hamas would release ten hostages in two phases within a week and transfer the bodies of eighteen deceased hostages. In return, Israel would release 125 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,111 Gaza residents arrested after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. A major objection from Hamas is that the proposal does not mention ending the war in Gaza or conditions for further humanitarian aid access.
