Caribbean Nations Expand Remote Work Visa Programs

Multiple Caribbean nations have announced significant extensions to their digital nomad visa programs, making it easier for remote workers to live and work in paradise long-term. Countries including Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Curaçao, and the Bahamas have enhanced their programs with durations up to two years and simplified application processes.

New Visa Requirements and Benefits

The updated programs feature competitive requirements: proof of remote employment, minimum monthly income ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 USD, valid health insurance, and clean criminal records. Barbados' Welcome Stamp program remains popular with its $2,000 fee and one-week processing, while Curaçao's @HOME program offers stays up to 12 months for $295.

Anguilla, Dominica, and Montserrat have joined the trend with their own specialized programs. Montserrat requires $70,000 annual income but offers tax-free living, while Dominica's "Work in Nature" visa targets eco-conscious nomads with its 18-month duration.

Economic Impact

These initiatives boost local economies through increased spending on accommodation, services, and tourism activities. Digital nomads typically spend over 35% of their income locally, creating revenue streams beyond traditional tourism. The Caribbean Tourism Organization reports a 131% increase in remote worker arrivals since 2023.

"This isn't just about sun-seeking freelancers," says tourism analyst Marcus Johnson. "We're attracting professionals who contribute to local economies while maintaining their global careers."
