Five café-goers injured in stabbing attack in German city Bielefeld, suspect at large

The German police are searching for a man who stabbed café visitors in Bielefeld last night. Five people were injured, three of them seriously.

Around 4:00 AM, the man randomly attacked visitors of bar Cutie in the center of Bielefeld, in northwestern Germany, using a stabbing weapon. Witnesses reported he carried a special walking stick with a knife attached. Some café-goers then attacked the man, injuring his face, but he managed to escape.

During his escape, the man lost a backpack containing multiple knives. Police also found a flammable liquid and a residence permit in the bag. Authorities warn that the suspect may still be armed and advise the public not to approach him but to call the police immediately if spotted.

The café was mostly frequented by fans of the local football club Arminia Bielefeld, which won the third division championship on Saturday. The five injured individuals, aged between 23 and 27, were hospitalized. A specialized homicide team is investigating the case, though police currently have no evidence of extremist motives.
