New Interdisciplinary Hub Aims to Tackle AI's Biggest Challenges

'Preventing extreme AI risks requires a multidisciplinary approach working across academic disciplines, public and private entities, and with the general public,' notes Gonzalez, referencing principles from established AI safety organizations like the Center for AI Safety (CAIS).

The launch comes amid increasing global attention to AI safety. Following the 2023 AI Safety Summit, both the United States and United Kingdom established their own AI Safety Institutes. However, researchers have expressed concern that safety measures aren't keeping pace with rapid AI development.
