Rock Legend Ace Frehley Passes Away

Ace Frehley, the legendary lead guitarist and founding member of rock band Kiss, has died at age 74. The iconic musician, known for his Spaceman persona and pyrotechnic guitar displays, passed away on October 16, 2025, from complications following a fall in his home recording studio in late September.

Family Statement and Final Moments

Frehley died peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, according to a statement released by his family. "We are completely devastated and heartbroken," the family said. "We cherish the most beautiful memories and his laughter. While our hearts are broken, we take comfort in having been with him in his final moments." The guitarist had been on life support after sustaining a brain injury from the fall.

Kiss Legacy and Original Lineup

Frehley was one of the four original members who formed Kiss in 1973, alongside Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. He created the iconic Spaceman character with his signature silver platform boots and smoking guitar effects. The band became famous for hits like "Rock and Roll All Nite," "I Was Made for Lovin' You," and "Detroit Rock City," selling over 100 million records worldwide according to industry estimates.

Career Highlights and Departures

Frehley was with Kiss from 1973 until 1982, when he was dismissed due to substance abuse issues. He returned for a highly successful reunion tour from 1996-2001 and continued performing with the band periodically. Original drummer Peter Criss reacted to the news on social media, writing: "I am shocked! My friend.. I love you." Frehley's most recent solo album, "10,000 Volts," was released in 2024.

Musical Influence and Hall of Fame

The guitarist was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Kiss in 2014. His aggressive, atmospheric guitar playing influenced generations of musicians. "Ace was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier in our foundational history," said Kiss co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons in a joint statement.

Recent Health Issues

Just one week before his death, Frehley had canceled his remaining 2025 tour dates citing "ongoing medical issues." His passing marks the first death of any original Kiss member, ending a career that spanned more than five decades and left an indelible mark on rock music history.
