Portuguese authorities have identified 13 of the 16 victims who lost their lives in Wednesday's devastating cable tram accident in Lisbon. The tragic incident occurred when the iconic tram derailed on a steep hill in the historic city center.

Victim Nationalities Revealed

The confirmed victims include five Portuguese nationals, two South Koreans, and one Swiss citizen. Police indicate that two Canadians, one German, one Ukrainian, and one American are also likely among the deceased, though these identities await final confirmation. Rescue and Medical Response

The accident left 13 people with minor injuries and 10 with serious wounds. Tragically, one of the critically injured passengers has since succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to 16. The cable tram derailed around 6:00 PM local time while traveling from the famous São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint to Restauradores Square. The vehicle plunged down a steep incline, derailed on a curve, and crashed into a building. Initial investigations point to possible cable failure or brake malfunction as contributing factors.

Portugal has declared national mourning for the coming days, and all cable tram services in the capital remain suspended indefinitely.
