A serious fire has erupted aboard the Marie Maersk container vessel approximately 50 nautical miles off the coast of Liberia. The ship, operated by Danish shipping giant Maersk, was en route from Rotterdam to Port Klang, Malaysia when crew members detected smoke emanating from cargo containers yesterday.

Emergency Response Underway

All 24 crew members are confirmed safe and remain aboard fighting the blaze. Two specialized firefighting tugboats have been dispatched to assist containment efforts. Maersk's emergency response team is coordinating remotely with the vessel while Liberian maritime authorities monitor the situation.
