Former ASML CEO Peter Wennink believes Europe can narrow the technological gap with the United States. He emphasizes the need for simpler regulations and a more efficient capital market. 'If we get these right and collaborate sufficiently, we can achieve major innovations in Europe,' he stated in an interview with Belgian newspaper De Tijd.

He argues that Europe should focus on sectors where other countries depend on it, such as AI, especially in light of the import tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. 'I sometimes hear that we missed the train. That’s simply not true. There’s still so much to gain.'
