Tons of radioactive uranium dumped in nature reserve: 'This is highly concerning'

Three tons of uranium were legally dumped in a UK nature reserve, raising environmental and health concerns.

In one of England's most protected nature reserves, three tons of uranium have been legally discharged over the past nine years. Environmental organizations are sounding the alarm, experts warn of health risks, and documents reveal there is no limit on the amount of uranium allowed in the water. How did this happen?

According to a report by The Guardian and Ends Report, the UK government permitted the dumping of uranium in the Ribble Estuary, a protected site, between 2015 and 2024. The discharges were carried out by the nuclear fuel factory Springfields Fuels near Preston.

Experts and activists are calling for stricter regulations and transparency, as the area is ecologically sensitive and home to rare species.
