Hundreds of people gathered in the Austrian city of Graz to commemorate the victims of a school shooting. Yesterday, a 21-year-old man killed ten people before taking his own life.
On the Hauptplatz in Graz, people lit candles, described by Austrian broadcaster ÖRF as a 'sea of light.' A memorial service was also held at Graz Cathedral, attended by Chancellor Stocker and his cabinet. The service was heavily secured by police.
The deputy bishop called the act 'unbearable' and urged the community to support one another. Another service took place near the school, also under police supervision.
The shooting occurred yesterday morning, lasted 17 minutes, and claimed 11 lives, including the perpetrator. Eleven others were injured, some seriously. Austria has declared three days of national mourning, with a minute of silence today at 10:00.
