A Russian airstrike has killed at least 21 civilians and injured 21 others in the village of Jarova in Ukraine's Donetsk region. The victims were reportedly standing in line to collect pension payments when the attack occurred.

International Condemnation and Calls for Action

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned what he called "a brutally frank attack" and urged the international community to take stronger action against Russia. "The world must not remain silent. The world must not remain inactive," Zelensky stated in a social media post.

Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin confirmed the casualty figures, describing the attack as targeting civilians engaged in everyday activities. The Donetsk region has been partially occupied by Russian forces since the escalation of the conflict in 2022.

Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis

This incident represents one of the deadliest single attacks on civilians in recent months. According to UN Human Rights Office reports, Russia has committed severe human rights violations in occupied Ukrainian territories, including arbitrary detentions and suppression of Ukrainian culture.

The attack comes amid continued fighting in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have maintained control over approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory despite international sanctions and military support for Ukraine from Western nations.
