Derailed Tram in Gothenburg Crashes into Food Stall, Eight Injured

In the early hours of the morning, a tram in the Swedish city of Gothenburg derailed and crashed into a food stall, leaving eight people injured. The incident occurred just before 1:00 AM when the tram, traveling at high speed, left the tracks while navigating a curve. It continued moving forward before coming to a stop inside the food stall.

Details of the Incident

Among the injured were the tram driver and several bystanders who were either on the sidewalk or inside the food stall at the time of the accident. Three of the injured remain hospitalized, though none are in life-threatening condition.

Eyewitness Accounts

"I’ve never seen anything like it," a nearby restaurant employee told Swedish broadcaster SVT. "The tram was going straight at high speed without braking." Another witness described how the tram "bounced forward" after derailing and recounted helping people out of the tram afterward.

The area around the crash site has been cordoned off for investigation.
